This book offers a transliteration of the relevant passages on the basis of several Ottoman manuscripts, as well as an English translation made by Robert Dankoff. In his description of his journey there is a wealth of information about this city. There are as many pure observations as Evliya Çelebi's own personal impressions. For the descriptions and impressions, the appropriate extract from the ninth volume of the Seyahat-name forms the basis of this work. The text is presented as a critical edition with translation. In the notes, Evliya Çelebrs information is compared with other source material and each one has been checked for its accuracy. Another aim of this work is to make a contribution in terms of publishing of the Seyahat-name. This publication is a slightly revised version of my doctoral dissertation. It was submitted to the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature at Otto Friedrich University Bamberg in April and accepted in the following winter semester.
